Mekong Delta - Vietnam - Jan 2015

The Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam is a vast maze of rivers, swamps and islands, home to floating markets, pagodas and villages surrounded by rice paddies. Boats are the main means of transportation, and tours of the region often start in nearby Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as Saigon) or Can Tho, a bustling town in the heart of the delta.

Chau Doc (Châu Đốc) is a city in the heart of the Mekong Delta, in Vietnam. There's not an enormous amount to do, but it's a wonderful place - small, cheap, rather unspoiled and very friendly. It's dominated by a large Indoor Market. If you're the type that prefers markets to malls, you'll love it.

Tra Su Cajuput Forest
Tra Su Cajuput Forest located about over 20km from Chau Doc Town. This sanctuary is renowned for not only its almost untouched natural beauty but also its sanctuary of flora and fauna. Take a boat trip into the forest, you will immediately feel like you are harmonizing with nature because of all of the impressive pictures of cajuputs, the fragrance of the flowers and the music-like noise of birds, insects and animals making people relaxed comfortable. From the observation post, you can overlook the forest with an area of nearly 900 ha, home of many birds and animals, including some rare ones.

Cycled on the footpaths of the countryside to discover tropical fruit orchards and the local people's activities.
